Department for Health Care and Social Welfare

This new and unique programme, specifically designed by an international team for people who are visually mpaired, provides comprehensive training in classic massage and leads to an EU -recognised qualification. All tuition is free. However, you need to pay for your accommodation at the training institute as well as for meals, transportation and study materials.

This intensive one-and-a-half year programme for visually impaired students from all over Europe is based at the Swedish Vocational Institute in Vasa, Finland. The Institute provides broad theoretical instruction in general subjects and in subjects concerned with a particular line of study or special field and attempts to create in its students a responsible approach and attitude to their work. The training is designed to provide students with the skills and know-how which will enable them to contribute successfully to the society of tomorrow.

You could be one of those students!

The course is taught in English and it will give you a rare opportunity to study and work abroad, developing your confidence and improving your employment prospects at the same time. Successful students will be able to practise their profession anywhere in Europe since the course leads to an EU-recognised qualification and the increased proficiency you will develop in using the English language will create new employment opportunities for you and increase your competitiveness on the job market.

The programme runs over three terms and comprises both theoretical and practical elements. Initially, you will practise your massage techniques on your fellow students. You will then move on to treating clients in a college-based clinic and then in the local community. This applied practice leads up to a period of on-the-job learning in a supervised practice setting.

By the end of the course you will be a fully trained masseur/masseuse able to provide treatment and advice to a wide range of client groups in different countries. You will also be able to work in a variety of contexts such as health spas, sports clubs and health care settings. You may choose to work in a private clinic or even set up your own practice.
